Floating Points / Reflections – Mojave Deserts
Eglo Recordsの創設者の１人としても知られるSam Shepherd率いるFloating Pointsは、2015年にリリースされたデビューアルバムが高い評価を受け、同アルバムをフューチャー・ジャズの最先鋒と呼ぶ声もあった。ただ、ひとつ自分が感じたのは、エレクトロニクスや新しい音楽様式とジャズが絡み合っているものが、よく聴くフューチャー・ジャズなのであれば、Floating Pointsの音楽はもはやエレクトロニクスがジャズを支配するまでに至っているのではないかということだ。Floating Pointsのライヴ・セッションは、もはやジャズ・セッションではなく、むしろエレクトロニクス・セッションのようにも聴こえる。
そんなFloating Pointsが今度は、自然界を相手にしてセッションをしようということで、今回のこのLP +DVD仕様の作品のリリースに至ったようだ。アメリカの広大なモハヴェ砂漠の容赦ない自然の音響の中で、どこまで自分たちのエレクトロニクス・ヴァイブスが戦えるのか。これは単なる環境映像とそのサウンドトラックとして捉えるには、あまりにもダイナミックな作品とも言えよう。
Floating Points, the band run by Sam Shepherd, a co-founder of Eglo Records, released their first album in 2015. The album received much recognition, even talked to be one of the spearheads of Future Jazz. Yet, my feeling was different. If Future Jazz is something in which new musical approaches via Electronic music entangling with Jazz, music played by Floating Points is more like Jazz being already conquered by Electronic music. Their live sessions may not be called as Jazz sessions, but more in the sense like Electronic sessions.
And now, they came up to work on sessions with Nature, thus introducing this set of LP + DVD work. How much of their Electronic vibes could wrangle with the nature’s acoustics in monstrous desert, Mojave? Apparently, this work is too dynamic to be just considered as one of those “Environmental Pictures” that come along with their soundtracks.

最後にフルアルバムがリリースされたのは2000年で、2008年には過去作品のボックス版の「Nah Und Fern」、そして去年には更に新たなボックス仕様での「BOX」をリリースしたWolfgang VoigtによるGASの完全新作が、実に10年以上の歳月を経てリリースとなる。GAS名義での新曲は最近ではBleepの１０周年を記念してリリースされた「BLEEP : 10」くらいだと記憶する。アンビエントとダブテクノが融合する深淵は相変わらずで、以前より更にアブストラクト感を増した内容になっているのではなかろうかという期待が膨らむ。スペシャルセットは３ＬＰ＋ＣＤとブックレットのセットとなっている。こちらはＬＰ限定のボーナストラックも収録。
It was the year 2000 when the last complete album by GAS a.k.a. Wolfgang Voigt was released. Followed by are box versions of the past releases, “Nah Und Fern” (2008) and “BOX” that was released just last year. It took more than 10 years since then, to receive GAS’s new album’s news. As far as I remember, recently we were only able to listen to GAS’s new track in Bleep’s 10 years anniversary album, “BLEEP : 10”. The abysm created by coalescence of Ambient and DubTechno is deep as ever, but more abstractness seems to weave up this new album. 3LP version comes along with the album’s CD version plus a bonus track and a booklet.
