昨年リリースされた、Plastikmanの11年ぶりのアルバムの曲からのリワーク集。デジタルでは既に販売されているが、ヴァイナル盤が近く発売となる。2013年11月にRichie HawtinことPlastikmanはディオールのデザイナーであるラフ・シモンズ（昔から、かなりのPlastikmanファンらしい）の招きで、ニューヨークのグッゲンハイム美術館でライブ・パフォーマンスを行い、その際、ライブ収録されたのがアルバム「EX」である。その音源をベルリン界隈のプロデューサーが、それぞれ個性的なリミックスをしている。
DixonはÂmeと共にレーベル、innervisionsを主宰していて、彼によるミックスは元曲の「Exhale」のメロディの美しさを生かした柔らかい仕上がりだ。Reconditeはダブテクノ好きにもオススメできる薄暗い霧のかかったようなミックスを提供している。Tale of Usはイタリア系のテックハウス２人組だが、先行でSoundcloudに公開された彼らのミックスの試聴数がダントツに高い。ベースが爆音のごとく膨張したり、水中に沈められたかのようにつまった音になるのを繰り返す躍動感が楽しい。Dubfireのミックスは最初から終わりまでハードに容赦なく攻める、いかにも彼らしいテクノミックスになっている。
The vinyl version of reworks (they are already out digitally) of Plastikman’s tracks taken from the album that has been released last year, as the first full-length album in eleven years, will be out soon. In November, 2013 Richie Hawtin a.k.a. Plastikman has played in Guggenheim Museum, New York by an invitation from Raf Simons, Dior’s designer (whom known to be a Plastikman fan for a long time). That actual live performance has been recorded to form Plastikman’s latest album, “EX”. The materials from that album were being reworked by various producers from the neighborhood around Berlin.
Dixon runs innervisions label with Âme. His mix treats well the beauty of the melody of “Exhale”, and makes it sound even ethereal. Recondite presents a dark and misty mix that may well appeal to DubTechno listeners. Tale of Us are Italan Tech House duo, and their premier mix on Soundcloud counts the highest number of listeners. Their mix sounds dynamic, for bass sounds are being exploded and smothered one after another as the mix proceeds. Dubfire’s mix is indeed his Techno mix that goes mercilessly hard as usual until the end.

エレクトロニックな連続体
ReagenzはMove DことDavid Moufangと、日本ではTetsu Inoueとのコラボでも知られるプロデューサーで、Spacetime Continuumの名義も持つJonah Sharpによるユニットで、1994年にアルバムを出して以来、ライブパフォーマンスなどでの活動でも知られる。今回のアルバムは、ニューヨークのテクノの拠点ともなっているThe Bunker New Yorkの10周年記念ライブ（2013年1月に開催）における彼らのプレイを収録したものとなっている。The Bunker New Yorkはレーベルとしても、これまでにVoices from the LakeやAtom™の作品をリリースしているが、今作はレーベルとしては、初のフルアルバムとなる。また、アルバムのクレジットを見ると、結構な数のハードウェアを使用しての演奏となっているようで、記載内容をそのまま挙げると、TR-909、TR-606、JX-3P、SH-101、Anyware Instruments TinySizer、Nord Micro Modular、Doepfer Dark Time、Akai MPC1000、Electro Harmonix Memory Man Delay、Moog MidiMurfというランナップだ。
アルバムでは、テクノやハウスやアンビエントがオーガニックにつながり、ひとつの流れを作っているライブ演奏が６つのセクションに区切られ、トラック名としては、それぞれに元素記号が付けられている。1曲目の「Si」は、その名のとおりシリコン（元素記号はSi）のような弾力を感じさせるバウンシーでコスミックなナンバー。2曲目の「Tc」は、テクネチウムという元素の記号で、いかにもテクノを意識したようなタイトルだけに、アシッド感のあるテック・チューン。背景に葬列がゆっくり動いているようなシンセ音が流れているのが全体的に重さを与えていて好きだ。続く「Au（金の元素記号）」はメタリックなビートで始まり、へヴィーなベースを従えたダブテクノ的な沈みの時間帯を経て、再びゴツゴツしたメタリックな展開を見せる。後半では、黄金に揺らめく光のシンセが流入し、不規則なリズムにブレイクダウンして行くダイナミックなトラックだ。「Ge」はゲルマニウムの元素記号で、発見者が母国ドイツ（Germany）から名付けたものらしい。Move Dもドイツ人ということで、こういうトラック名を選んだのかも知れない。この曲はピッチの高いオリエンタルな旋律を「スターウォーズ」のR2-D2が唄っているような音が基本となっていて、流れるようなシンセの伴奏がときおり、アウトバーンで風を切って走る車を連想させる。「Co」はコバルトの元素記号で、「地底の妖精」を意味するドイツ語koboldに由来するらしい。曲はキラキラとしたアンビエントな雰囲気で始まり、何かが遠くで唄っているような音も聴こえる。この流麗な空気をそのまま引き連れてダブを織り交ぜながら、デトロイト・テクノ的な展開を見せるのがダブニウムという元素の記号にあたる「Db」という曲。これも、多分、ダブを意識して付けられたタイトルなのだろう。シンセ好きの人のみならず、ダンサブルでアトモスフェリックに泉のように湧き出し、流れ続けるエレクトロニック・サウンドがとても楽しめる1枚だ。
An Electronic Continuum
Reagenz is a collaborative project by David Moufang (a.k.a. Move D) and Jonah Sharp (an Electronic Music producer known in Japan for a collaboration with Tetsu Inoue, and alias Spacetime Continuum). Since their first record release in 1994, they kept performing together in many events. This is an album which records their live performance at the 10th anniversary event (held in January, 2013) of the Bunker New York, which is now known as a Techno base of New York. The Bunker New York is also known as a label for having record releases of The Voices from the Forest, Atom™, etc., and this record by Reagenz would be the first full version album release for the label. And to add, from the credits of the album, I notice that good tons of hardware have been used for their performance, they are namely TR-909, TR-606, JX-3P, SH-101, Anyware Instruments TinySizer, Nord Micro Modular, Doepfer Dark Time, Akai MPC1000, Electro Harmonix Memory Man Delay, and Moog MidiMurf.
The live performance recorded for the album consists of Techno, House, and Ambient music linking to each other organically, and is being divided into six sections (tracks) each being titled in chemical symbols. The opener track, “Si” (the symbol which stands for the element, Silicon) is a bouncy, cosmic House track as if expressing the rubberlike feel of the material silicon. The following track, “Tc” (stands for the element called Technetium) is an Acid oriented Tech House track as the title may suggest like so, but a slight mood of mournfulness lingers for synths play a requiem-like melody in the background of the track. “Au” (which stands for Gold) starts with metallic beats followed by a section in which DubTechno factors make the track sink in to a certain deepness, and then another rocky and metallic phase takes over the flow of the music. As the track approaches to its end, synth melodies of dancing golden light fluxes flow in and its beats and rhythms gradually break down to a jerky disorder. It is a dynamic track indeed. ‘Ge’ which stands for an element called, Germanium has been named after Germany, since the founder of the element is a German. The track, “Ge” may have been named as so for Move D is from Germany also. The track basically features a high-pitched, oriental melody that sounds like a singing voice of R2-D2 (of Star Wars), and that song is being accompanied by synth sounds that remind me of cars running on an autobahn. ‘Co’ stands for an element called Cobalt, which has been named after a German word ‘kobold’, a word used to express a type of sprite that haunts underground places, such as mines. The track is an Ambient track with twinkling sounds of showers and unknown beings’ singing voices echoing at a far distance. This elegant flow of sound is being passed on to the next track, “Db” (which stands for an element called Dubnium, the name that reminds me of ‘Dub’), in which Dub effects are being mixed followed by an emerging phase of Detroit Techno. No matter whether you are a synth freak or not, this album is enjoyable for its ethereal and danceable electronic sounds that gush forth and flow like a spring.
