ダブテクノなテックハウス

Roberto Clementiはイタリア人のプロデューサーで、2000年代後半には、Monique Musiqueなどから、テックハウス寄りの曲を多く発表してきた印象だ。その後、2012年あたりにBrendon MoellerのSteadfastレーベルからのリリースやSomaからのリリースでダブテクノの片鱗を見せ出したようだが、このアルバムを聴く限り、そのスタイルは2012年以降のBrendon Moeller（もしくは、別名義のEchologist）のように、ミニマルやディープハウスにダブテクノ要素を組み込んだような、フロア寄りの感じに近い感じになっている。

このアルバム全体の雰囲気としては、イタロな軽快さとムーディーさがあり、ダブテクノの曲をハウス調にリミックスしたような曲が多い。ただ、かなり、バラエティに富んだ、音での遊びがあり、アルバムの後半になるにつれて、どうやってそれを収集つけるのかが不安になったりもする。前半に並ぶ曲は、ダブテクノ・エッセンスのあるハード目なミニマルテクノ風だったり、アシッド感満載なイタロテックだったりする。6曲目の「Reeced」では、ダーク・アンビエントな雰囲気を背後に持ちながらも、アシッドなシンセがDNAの螺旋のようなうねりをあげていて、8曲目の「When Love Clashes」はオーソドックスなダブテクノのハウスミックスのようだが、波長をいじっている音が妙なレトロ感を出している。9曲目の「Visceral」は蜂が飛び回っているような音にダブを交えながら、太いシンセ音と鋭いシンセ音を交互に絡ませて立体感のある不思議な空間を表現している。そして、最後の2曲ではミニマルなまとめ方ながら、女性ヴォーカルや琴のようなストリングス系のきれいなメロディーが流れている。

このアルバムを出した後にRoberto Clementiは、Echocordから12インチをリリースしているが、こちらはアルバムとは対照的に、かなりダブテクノらしく聴こえる。想像するに、この人は、ダブテクノとテックハウスの間を頻繁に行き来するのをきっと楽しんでいるに違いない。確かに、このアルバムも1曲1曲のアルバムとしてではなく、ダブテクノとテックハウスを行き来するような、シームレスなDJセットとして聴けた方が、もっとスリリングでおもしろいものになったのかも知れないと、今となっては思ってしまう。





Tech House of DubTechno

Roberto Clementi is an Italian producer, known as releasing Tech House tunes from labels such as Monique Musique by the end of the 2000’s. Since 2012, he has released some works from Steadfast (Brendon Moeller’s label) and Soma Records and through these works, we get a glimpse of his attitude leaning towards DubTechno. As far as I listen to this album, likewise Brendon Moeller (or as Echologist) after 2012, his music sounds something like a DubTechno flavored Minimal/Tech Deep House.

As a whole, the tracks in the album have Italian easiness and moodiness and are like DubTechno tracks of Deep House remixes. However, he plays around with various electronic sounds throughout the album and makes me wonder where he is going up to. Most of the tracks lined up in the first half of the album are DubTechno flavored Minimal House and Acid Ital Tech tunes. In the sixth track, “Reeced”, I hear Acid sounds of spiraling DNA over the Dark Ambient air in the background. The following track, “When Love Clashes” is a good remix of a DubTechno track which comes together with old fashioned Electro sounds of altered wavelengths. I hear bees buzzing in the atmosphere in which synth sounds of fat and sharp collide with each other creating a unique three dimensional feeling in the nineth track called “Visceral”. The last two tracks are of Minimal beats with women’s vocals and delicate sounds of string instruments.

After this album’s release, Roberto Clementi provides comparatively DubTechno oriented tracks for 12inch EPs release from Echocord. So to speak that this DJ is having pretty much fun walking around in between Tech House and DubTechno. In fact, I have started to imagine that instead of having separate tracks recorded in the album, if all the tracks in the album were mixed in one as a simple DJ set which wanders in between DubTechno and Tech House, it could have been more exciting for us to listen to.
