黙示録

Lussuriaは2008年くらいから、アンダーグラウンドのノイズ・シーンなどで活動を開始し、2010年からは、Hospital Productionsなどから主にカセットでのリリースを続けて来た。今作は彼にとっては、本格的なアルバム作品と言ってもいい。アルバムのタイトルの「Industriale Illuminato」は多分「インダストリアルへの啓蒙」というような意味だと思う。そして、アルバムのアートワークを見ても、18世紀のヨーロッパで啓蒙思想が湧き上がった頃のようなクラシカルな雰囲気がある。ただし、啓蒙思想からルネッサンスへつながる流れだけを見ると、世界が明るく開けて行く感じだが、その反面、当時のヨーロッパにはキリスト教を基盤とした世界観に揺るぎが生じ、そこにつけ込むかのように神秘思想やロマン思想のような「怪しく、暗い」思想も侵入してきて、世の中が謎めいていたのも事実である。そして個人的には、このアルバムが、その「怪しく、暗い」部分を模しているような感じにも思える。

アルバムの1曲目の「Boneblack」は「起こさないから、怖くないわよ」と反復する女性の声で始まり、不穏な闇が這いずり込んで来たかと思うと、その声が悪魔の声のように変わる曲だ。以後、アルバム全体に重苦しいインダストリアルな要素を据えながら、現代音楽のような狂った反復や、意識が混濁するような空間を生み出すダブや、サタンの陰鬱なメロディのダーク・ドローンな曲が連なる。3曲目の「Venus In Retrograde」は遠くでヘリコプターが飛んでいるようなプロペラ音のビートにフランシス・コッポラの「カンバセーション…盗聴…」にインスパイアされたという被害妄想狂のブツブツ言う声が乗っている。4曲目の「Breath Of Cinder」はどこかの広場でのフィールドレコーディングに物憂げなメロディを乗せて、そこに密かな声での聖書の引用などが続き、ヨハネの黙示録の部分が聞き取れる。後半は特に威圧感のあるインダストリアルな曲が続き、最後は黒魔術の世界のような不気味さの余韻を残すダーク・アンビエントな曲となっている。

このアルバムを聞き終えた後は、まるでサブリミナルのように「黙示録」ということを意識させられ、「啓蒙」という光の陰にある得体の知れない恐怖というものが巧妙に表現されているようにも思った。そして「インダストリアル・リヴァイバル」の時代性をうまく掛け合わせたのも賢い。





Revelation

Lussuria has started releasing his music since 2008 mainly within underground Noise genre, and from 2010 he came to prominence with releases on cassettes from Hospital Productions. This album is apparently his debut album from the label. I think that the title of the album, “Industriale Illuminato” means something like ‘the Enlightenment of Industrialism (or Industrial Music)’. The art works of the album even have this classical touch of 18th century, when the philosophy of Enlightenment had started to emerge in Europe. However, it should be remembered that, while the idea of Enlightenment led to the age of Renaissance, it was not like as every doors had opened simply to the brighter New World, but for increase of Freedom, dark and mysterious ideas from Mysticism and Romanticism had chances to creep in, thus making the world a bit cryptic. And my personal feeling about this album is that, it is in some way reflecting the darkness and mysteriousness similar to such found at that time.

The opener of the album starts with repetitive voice of a female saying, “Never wake you. Never fear… ,” but as an ominous gloom crawls in, the voice changes in to a voice of a devil. Hereafter, gloomy Industrial aspects settle at the basic of the album, while you find tracks creating: repetitious insanity like that found in Contemporary Music, mind-muddling dimension of Dub, and evil atmosphere of Dark Drone. In the third track, “Venus In Retrograde”, a paranoid narrative which is said to be inspired from Francis Coppola’s film, “Conversation” murmurs along with rattling sound of a flying helicopter. The following track, “Breath Of Cinder” consists of a field recorded sound of a park, and the sound surrounds somber melodies that carry quiet narrative quoting the Bible. I hear some quotes taken from “Revelation”. The last half of the album following this track are mostly dense Industrial tracks, while a demonic atmosphere lingers after the closer track of Dark Ambient.

After listening to this album, as if being influenced by a subliminal effect, I came to be aware of the Apocalypse, thus making me feel that the album artful in expressing this indescribable fear hidden in the dark side of Enlightenment. It is artful also in the sense that it links well with today’s mood in reviving Industrial Music.
