2010年代のアンビエント

2010年代に入ってからVladislav Delayは、Vladislav Delay as Sistol、Moritz von Oswald Trio（Moritz von OswaldとMax Loderbauerと共に結成されたダブテクノ・ユニット）、Vladislav Delay Quartet（Mika Vainioらと結成したエクスペリメンタル・ジャズバンド）などの別名義や別ユニットでの活躍が多くなったが、ここ数年ではRaster-Notonからのソロ名義のアルバムを2枚ほど出しており、いずれもRaster-Notonのレーベルカラーに合った感じのミニマル作品となっている。この間の彼の音楽のイメージは、やはりミニマル・ビートにグリッチ要素をふりかけたようで、ときに攻撃的で、陰鬱さもまとっているような感じのものといえる。2013年に自身のレーベル、Ripattiを設立し、今回はそこから初めてソロアルバムのリリースとなり、2010年以前の彼の作品のようなアンビエントな雰囲気が復活したように感じる。

1曲目の「Visaton」は22分にも及ぶ大作で、早朝の人の気配がない空港を思わせる冷たいアンビエント・スペースにローファイなパルス音が柔らかな狂気を増幅させて、次第にあらゆる環境音を寄せ集めてシュレッダーにかけるような展開になっている。2曲目の「Viaton」は空間に宿るあらゆる物質や機械の振動音が息もつまるほど充満して行くドローンで、続く「Viisari」はダブテクノの雰囲気のなかで人やあらゆる物が擦れ合い、その動きや営みが表現されているようだ。4曲目の「Vihollinen」はインダストリアルな要素を少し交えながらも、ピアノの美しい鍵盤の音色がパルス音や機械音の裏に巧妙に隠されている名曲。その曲の終わり方も衝撃的で美しい。

このアルバムのジャケットのデザインは海図を思わせる模様が施されていて、タイトルが「Visa」なだけに、裏面には、日本語の入国審査の記入用紙に記載されている文言がこっそりデザインに組み込まれていておもしろい。その音楽がアンビエント寄りということだけでなく、こういうことも含めて、やっぱりこれは、Vladislav Delayなりのエアポート・ミュージックなのではないかとも思ってしまう。





An Ambient Music of the 2010’s

From the year 2010, Vladislav Delay has become quite active working in various aliases: Moritz von Oswald Trio (a DubTechno group made with Moritz von Oswald and Max Loderbauer), Vladislav Delay Quartet (an Experimental Jazz band made with Mika Vainio and others), and Vladislav Delay as Sistol; and the recent straight solo releases are being made from Raster-Noton, and those sound Minimal pretty much in a Raster-Noton way. Within this five years, my impression on his music has become somewhat like Minimal beat-driven, Glitch oriented, and sometimes harsh and wearing a bleak atmosphere. In 2013, he has created his own label Ripatti, and this album is the first solo album released from the label. The album is interestingly Ambient, as if reviving his style back in years earlier than 2010’s.

The opener track, “Visaton” is a 22 minutes epic which creates an Ambient, spatial feeling that reminds me of chilly and vacant airport in the early morning, in which Lo-Fi electronic pulse beats fluctuate amplifying a gentle insanity; then gradually, all of the sounds of surroundings are being vacuumed to one center and are being shredded into pieces. The following track, “Viaton” is a Drone music in which all resonant and vibrational sounds of materials and machineries pervade the atmosphere and the following DubTechno oriented track, “Viisari” is like expressing movements of people and material objects shuffling with each other. “Vihollinen” sounds slightly Industrial, but is a beautiful track with affectionate pianos hidden elaborately behind mechanical pulses and Glitch sounds; and how this track ends is another surprising beauty.

Putting eyes on the cover art of the album, you will find graphics like nautical charts and in the back, printed are the Japanese sentences related with immigration documents, which could be a typographic design that may be hinting the album’s title, “Visa”. Such visual factors put together with the fact of the album being Ambient oriented, may be indicating that this album is Vladislav Delay version of an ‘airport music’.
