Sven Schienhammer & Monoaxial

さて。以下ふたつのアルバムは、個人的にはQuantecのターニングポイント的な雰囲気を醸し出してる作品だと考えている。というのも、この辺りから、ダブテクノを基本にしつつも、そこにフロア要素が多く加わり始めているように感じるからだ。そして、ここからQuantecの次のアルバムへと作風が引き継がれるているようにも思える。

「ABX10」Coppice Halifax / Monoaxial（2011 Milieu Music）
インディペンデントのダブテクノ・アーティストのCoppice Halifaxとのスプリットアルバムで、QuantecはMonoaxial名義で参加している。ここにはオーソドックスなダブテクノ・スタイルの曲も収録されているが、遥かにフロア寄りにシフトした楽曲も同時に含まれていて、Quantec名義の2012年にリリースの「1000 Vacuum Tubes」のアルバムタイトル名の曲の別ミックスも先行で収録されている。Coppice Halifaxもまた、ダブテクノのフィールドにありながら、エクスペリメンタルでフロア寄りのダーク・アンビエントな引き出しも持つアーティスト。この二人の組み合わせは、なかなか興味深く、お互いに手探りし合いながら、ダブテクノの新しい可能性についての会話をしているかのような構成のアルバムになっていて愉しい。

「Altostratus Translucidus」Sven Schienhammer（2011）
こちらの名義のアルバムでは、一種、ダブテクノの世界を俯瞰して見るように、ドローン・アンビエント・スタイルから、ハウス寄りのダブテクノ・サウンドをきれいに網羅している。最後に収録の楽曲は、Filburtによるダブテクノ＋ディープハウス（ほんのりジャズなところが良い）のミックスアルバム「Deepentertained 2」の雰囲気を持ち、Quantecの曲の中では一番ジャズ風でダウンテンポなオシャレ度の高い楽曲で、必聴。

こうやって見ると、Quantecは、これらのふたつのアルバムなどを通して、ダブテクノの枠を越えたビートへのヴェクトルを伸ばし始めていたのではないかと思う。特に「Altostratus Translucidus」では、楽曲の構成が静寂から躍動へと移行しており、彼の音楽性の変遷と探究のストーリーを象徴しているかのようだ。

I think there are two albums that indicate a certain change taking place in Quantec’s music style : classical Dub Techno style shifting to a more house music oriented style. After these two albums, I think traits of such changes are being transferred to the following Quantec’s album released in 2012.

“ABX10” Coppice Halifax / Monoaxial（2011 Milieu Music）
This is a split album Quantec (as Monoaxial) working with an independent Dub Techno artist, Coppice Halifax. In this album, classical Dub Techno style is played by both artists, but they both also present house music oriented tracks with good crunchy beats. Quantec’s following album’s “1000 Vacuum Tubes” remix track is also included as a teaser. I have an impression that Coppice Halifax is an artist of Dub Techno field, cherishing an experimental nature who creates variety of dark ambient beats. The combination of these two artists is quite interesting, and it looks as if their tracks presented in various approaches in this album are having a good conversation with each other, on possibilities of some new style Dub Techno to come forward.

“Altostratus Translucidus” Sven Schienhammer（2011）
It is almost like experiencing a bird’s eye view over Dub Techno world when you listen to this album by Sven Schienhammer a.k.a. Quantec. This album is well comprised of Drone, Ambient, and house music oriented Dub Techno styles. My favorite track is the closing track which has this jazzy feeling that reminds me of Filburt’s Deep House + Dub Techno Mix album, “Deepentertained 2”.

I have a feeling that through these albums, Quantec may have started to stretch his arms towards the world with more beats and bass. The tracks in “Altostratus Translucidus” are lined up in the order starting with an ambient track and then tracks follow by gradually gaining their beats till the end. This makes me think that the album as a total could be reflecting the course of Quantec’s musical transformation and exploration.
