Quantec / 1000 Vacuum Tubes

ダブテクノレーベルのEchocordから距離をおいて、Elux Recordsから出ている「1000 Vacuum Tubes」は、Quantec名義では、3年ぶりのフルアルバム。先に触れたMonoaxialやSven Schienhammerのアルバムを聴いていないと、ちょっとびっくりする変貌ぶりである。ダブテクノの曲も若干あるが、デトロイト・テクノ界隈の音を意識したハウシーな曲が圧倒的に多い。Narita Records時代のArctic Hospitalのような、ダブをからませた、切ないミニマル曲もあるが、少しアンビエントかと思えば、実は90年代のIDM（インテリジェントで美しい電子音楽で、禁欲的なデトロイト・テクノと自分は考えているが…）のB12やStasis風な火星に残された湖の痕跡を連想させるような曲もある。とはいえ、やっぱり、ビートのある方向性がかなり強くなっている感じがし、2011年辺りに出た別名義での作品にある、「脱ダブテクノ」の傾向を更に先に広げた感じに見える。

個人的には、デトロイト・テクノもダブテクノも大好きなので、このアルバムは好きではあるが、ちょっと、色々盛りだくさん的な感じはある。だが、これから、Quantecが従来のダブテクノのスタイルからどのように進化しようとしているのか、見守りたいと思う…。




Metamorphosis 2012

After three years from “Cauldron Subsidence “, Quantec has released "1000 Vacuum Tubes" from Elux Records, instead of releasing it from the well-known DubTechno label, Echocord. If listening to this latest album, not having any idea of Monoaxial’s or Sven Schienhammer’s albums as mentioned above, one might be quite surprised to find out that Quantec’s music has undergone pretty much of metamorphosis. The album does not bear much of strict DubTechno taste, and Detroit Techno oriented house music style runs dominantly within. There are some tracks that remind me of Dub-Minimal, sounding like early Arctic Hospital of Narita Records days, and some ambient tracks sounding like 90’s IDM artists: B12 or Stasis. However, I should admit that I still find good numbers of beats going on throughout the album, as if extending the artist’s post-DubTechno tendency found in some tracks that have been released in 2011, by Monoaxial and Sven Schienhammer.

I personally do favor both Detroit Techno and DubTechno music, so I fairly do like this album, but it may look a bit too much in respect of having quite a number of variations on its musical approach. However still, I would like to watch over how Quantec will evolve his DubTechno style from then on.
