Sherwood at the Controls Vol.1: 1979 – 1984
This is an archival album series of Adrian Sherwood, the founder of On-U Sound Records, and an influential producer who has always been pouring aspects of Dub in to various types of music in Europe and USA, back since the Post-Punk days. Volume 1 of the series will cover the tracks that have been released in years 1979 to 1984, the tracks which would mostly be of Post-Punk and New Wave. Recognizable New Wave tracks are the ones by Medium Medium and Nadja, an Iraqi singer. The tracks by The Pop Group’s Mark Stewart and The Slits will be the firsts on the list of the Post-Punk category, and some others are like tracks by Shriekback, a band by Barry Andrews (ex-XTC) and The Fall (I am quite acquainted with their albums from Beggars Banquet). Interesting ones are like Maximum Joy’s Jazz and Funk oriented Post-Punk track, Annie Anxiety’s Experimental track, and Vivien Goldman’s Afro influenced track. And not to worry, good Reggae tracks by Prince Far I, Singers & Players, and African Head Charge are also included in the album. However still, I should say that the track by Voice of Authority which is a project by Adrian Sherwood himself is outstandingly aggressive and anarchic.
